The foutas were originally Indian fabrics or pieces of cloth. It is in Tunisia that the fouta then experienced a lightning development to become the traditional towel for the sauna, the hammam and the spa. Nowadays, the fouta has become the essential summer accessory for sunbathing and drying off on the beach or at the swimming pool, and is now sold all over the world.
