Recycled Material White Shopping Bag

The Maker: Puebco are conjurers of beautiful goods from recycled materials, mostly those from the Indian and Japanese military.

PUEBCO was born in Japan 2007 with the simple notion of creating things instinctively, using found and recycled materials to curate renewed lifestyle items. PUEBCO believes that just as people are the sum of their lived experiences, the objects we share our homes with should carry that same sense of history and weight. By using recycled materials and hand made processes, PUEBCO imbues these objects with the feel of many lifetimes and a sense of history that makes each piece unique. With PUEBCO products, there are no imperfections... they are details meant to be there by design.

The Work: "We would normally use these polyethylene bags as sandbags in Japan, but in India, they are used to carry grain until they are torn and then they are recycled to use again. We thought about using these as one of our items but unfortunately the leftover odor of the recycled bags was too strong. We ended up taking the white cylindrical bags, adjusted the depth, sewed the bottom, added handles and made it into a new bag. The official Puebco store in Tokyo gives these out to customers as a gesture of appreciation for coming to our store but what was used as a customer's shopping bag became a popular item in itself. The quality of the product is not consistent and varies based on the circumstances of when it was made. We are hoping this bag, originally designed for carrying grain in India, will bring new value to you."
